Bridges are a permanent and realistic way of filling a gap between teeth that has been caused by one or more missing teeth. They are in effect a false tooth, or false teeth held in place by adjacent teeth either side of the gap.

The neighbouring teeth will often need to be crowned in order to make them strong enough to support the bridge. The other alternative options to replacing missing teeth that may be considered are partial dentures or a dental implants.

Dental Bridge Case Studies

This patient had a gap and we decided that the best form of treatment would be a dental bridge. We prepared and reduced the adjacent teeth between the gap so it could support the new dental bridge. The new bridge filled the space and also covered the teeth either side of the gap, so the patient had in effect, 3 new teeth.

Bridges are the most cost effective way of permanently replacing missing teeth. In some cases we use a combination of bridges, crowns and veneers to achieve the desired results. Here is an example of this combination treatment for one of our patients. An excellent end result with a significant change of appearance.

Maryland Bridges

Dental bridges are available in many varieties to cover a range of dental complexities. There are metal bridges, metal free bridges, large bridges, small bridges, removable bridges, fixed bridges and dental implant bridges.

The simplest form of dental bridge is what is known as a Maryland bridge or sticky bridge. Maryland bridges replace a single missing tooth with wings on either side of the new tooth, these wings are bonded to the inside of the adjacent teeth. A Maryland bridge can be made from either metal or metal free material such as zirconia.

Classic Dental Bridge

Classic dental bridges are a little more permanent than Maryland bridges. They require preparing and reducing neighbouring teeth to form a structure for the classic dental bridge to attach onto. A classic bridge can be used to replace one or more teeth by spanning the gap and placing the new teeth to existing teeth.

Dental bridges can often be made to replace missing front teeth and held in place on top of root canal treatments. Whilst this is not a common way to replace missing teeth, but it can achieve great results.
